A wise internet meme once said, "If I don't have a yummy treat every couple of hours, my condition worsens". It told no lies: there's no denying that most of us need some kind of pick me up every day to encourage us to get to the end of it.

Some might say that this is a depressing symptom of our relentlessly consumerist, selfish and dopamine-fuelled society. The rest of us are too busy filling every single sense with distractions from our existential terror, and that's just the way we like it.

In terms of entertainment-based delights that we can give ourselves, there are few things better than a humble list of memes — especially when we don't have a lot of time on our hands, or don't want to make the effort.
